Message from the President
One would not be exaggerating if one stated that music has never been more accessible to people of all ages than in the 21st Century. The use of ipods, in particular, facilitate the existence of a continuous “sound-track” in young people’s lives. However, few people realize the existence of many masterworks in pop and rock culture, commercials and movies. The themes or motives of masterworks often act as a canvas upon which another art work or message is superimposed. In the final product the icon that becomes part of our collective conscience is the name of the product in the commercial, the name of the movie or the new artist interpreting the now new composition. A new and supplementary form of music appreciation for our students needs to address the roots of sound tapestries behind creations that have embedded masterworks.
